A former Washington County teacher, pastor and day care operator has admitted in 5th District Court that he kissed an 11-year-old girl and attempted to touch her chest and buttocks.

Gabriel E. Carlin, 34, was initially charged with four counts of aggravated child sex abuse, first-degree felonies punishable by up to life in prison.

He has pleaded guilty to two counts of third-degree felony attempted sexual abuse of a child.
Carlin faces up to 10 years in prison when he is sentenced Sept. 3 by Judge Eric Ludlow.

Police have said the abuse occurred in March 2006, when Carlin, owner of the now-defunct East Harbor Christian Academy in the town of Washington, gave the student a ride to her home in St. George.

  1. I worked at his daycare. I met Gabe, his wife, his older stepdaughter, and a mutual friend of theirs who was also of their religion. there wasn’t a moral among them. I do not judge religions. In my experience they all have good things that help people be better and happier, but these are confusd, unhappy people who feed off each others evil and find strengh in numbers. They have had problems personally with drugs and sexual abuse in the daycare. They had been shut down before and just keep finding ways to get around laws.

    • I’ve known Gabe for 9 years now and your assessment of him and his family are puzzling to me. “evil people that find strength numbers,” that’s a strange characterization of a good man that has a great family.
